Otto Hermansson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 12th minute of play. 13 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tord Åström. Newcastle United FC's Otto Hermansson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felix Montenegro in the 14th minute of play. After having played for 15 minutes, Marko Gustavsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newcastle United FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marko Gustavsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 19th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Otto Hermansson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 29thth minute of the game Cristian Sancho who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Newcastle United FC's Otto Hermansson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Otto Hermansson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Max Mohammad in the 95th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Newcastle United FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Claes Ahlroht in the 97th minute. After taking down the ball on Newcastle United FC's corner Claes Ahlroht fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
