After some fancy dribbling in the 6th minute, Deilmison van Basten managed to get in a good position for a shot. ATHLETICO PRaiano's supporters rose to their feet, but Deilmison van Basten was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Duarte Mendes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Deilmison van Basten received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. Duarte Mendes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Duarte Mendes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Deilmison van Basten in the 15th minute of play. Rodriguinho Sousa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Doriva Koehler, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. 23 minutes into the match, AFC - Curitiba's goalkeeper Duarte Mendes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Deilmison van Basten. Rodriguinho Sousa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matouš Carda, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jan Bykowski in the 26th minute of play forced ATHLETICO PRaiano's goalkeeper Rodriguinho Sousa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Deilmison van Basten in the 29th minute of play forced AFC - Curitiba's goalkeeper Duarte Mendes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of ATHLETICO PRaiano booed when AFC - Curitiba was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luiz Fábio Borges didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the match clock showed 33 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Romário Ortiz sped through ATHLETICO PRaiano's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Rodriguinho Sousa. In the 36thth minute of the game Deilmison van Basten who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but AFC - Curitiba's Duarte Mendes was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Deilmison van Basten could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but Duarte Mendes made a huge save. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Duarte Mendes came out of the goal in the 54th minute to try and stop a shot by ATHLETICO PRaiano's Deilmison van Basten. But to his dismay, Deilmison van Basten quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. In the 57th minute Deilmison van Basten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Duarte Mendes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 69 minutes into the match, ATHLETICO PRaiano's Deilmison van Basten sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Duarte Mendes narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 72nd match minute, AFC - Curitiba was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Fábio Borges to maneuver through the defense. AFC - Curitiba's Rômulo Negri was substituted for Jan Bykowski. 96 minutes into the match, Deilmison van Basten notched a goal, 5-2, to the right of AFC - Curitiba's Duarte Mendes. Duarte Mendes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. ATHLETICO PRaiano's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
