Caxias do Sul's Egun Pais threw himself towards the right post 16 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Lucio Siekkötter, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Andy Cole blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Esen Sanal having to make a save. Esen Sanal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Andy Cole, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 26 minutes into the match, S.E.R. When Andy Cole came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Floresta Negra FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Andy Cole couldn't finish the play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
