If Julian Murillo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 23rd minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Peter-Michael Schmeichel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rolando Noboa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Claudio Caniglia in the 24th minute of the match. 27 minutes into the match, Peru's Julian Murillo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Peter-Michael Schmeichel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Kapiton Bomba hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. In the 55th minute, Çağdaş Quaresma hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Julian Murillo struck a weak shot in the 78th minute. Peter-Michael Schmeichel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Peru. In the 78th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Peter-Michael Schmeichel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Peter-Michael Schmeichel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 80th minute of play. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Norbert Jaktorowo in the 82nd minute of play. Rafael Gallo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Peter-Michael Schmeichel made a huge save. When Anthony Alvarado fell near the penalty area in the 96th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Peru's protests and gave Anthony Alvarado a yellow card for diving instead. Anthony Alvarado hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Peru walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
