The tension between the Colombia and the Vélez Juniors players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 6th minute of the game. One of Colombia:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Vélez Juniors:s goal. Cristian Naike received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Pedro Manzanares came out and tried to block the shot, but Cristian Naike slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 10th minute. Elpidio Vitin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Axel Montenegro, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Joshua Garrido made a great header on Colombia's corner, it was just that Vélez Juniors's Elpidio Vitin managed to reach the ball for a save. When Vélez Juniors's Nicolas Roland in the 16th minute got a chance for a shot 16th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. In the 28th minute Luis Cazalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elpidio Vitin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 30 minutes into the game, Nicolas Roland recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Pedro Manzanares. Nicolas Roland showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-0. Axel Montenegro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Elpidio Vitin having to make a save. Elpidio Vitin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Axel Montenegro in the 33rd minute of play. When the match had gone on for 37 minutes, Guido Luzaide took a quick shot and it went in 4-0 without a chance for Pedro Manzanares to make any attempt to save it. In the 42nd match minute, Colombia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Orlando Tafalla to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Abram Sarmiento in the 47th minute of play forced Vélez Juniors's goalkeeper Elpidio Vitin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Abram Sarmiento made the kick off in the second half. In the 51stth minute of the game Abram Sarmiento who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Vélez Juniors's Elpidio Vitin was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After some careless play in the Vélez Juniors defense, Abram Sarmiento kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Elpidio Vitin. The Vélez Juniors fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Elpidio Vitin should have stopped the shot. Axel Montenegro who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 55thth minute tested the skills of Elpidio Vitin when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Nicolas Roland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 60 minutes into the match, Colombia's Axel Montenegro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Elpidio Vitin narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 63rd match minute, Vélez Juniors was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alberto Joey to maneuver through the defense. Vélez Juniors's Godofredo Ado was substituted for Alberto Joey. After some careless play in the Vélez Juniors defense, Abram Secada kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Elpidio Vitin. The Vélez Juniors fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Elpidio Vitin should have stopped the shot. Colombia's Joshua Garrido got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Abram Secada got free with Elpidio Vitin in the 94th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Vélez Juniors's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
