But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. 7 minutes into the match, Dep Colonia Avellaneda's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Victoriano Bernaldo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 8th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Victoriano Bernaldo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Dep Colonia Avellaneda's Victoriano Bernaldo managed to reach the ball for a save. Leopoldo Rosa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Victoriano Bernaldo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 16 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Victoriano Bernaldo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Leopoldo Rosa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Leopoldo Rosa's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Julio Vera firmly grabbed it by the left post. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leopoldo Rosa in the 25th minute of play. 28 minutes into the match, Wei Li had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Julio Vera. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Wei Li was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Victoriano Bernaldo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 37th minute of the match. 45 minutes into the match, Cristian Sancho notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Dep Colonia Avellaneda's Victoriano Bernaldo. Victoriano Bernaldo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Darryl Buckner to make the kick off. Leopoldo Rosa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 50th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Leopoldo Rosa in the 52nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Felix Montes got a free kick in the 53rd minute. Wei Li fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Victoriano Bernaldo was out of position in the 59 minute of play, and Daniel Zorita capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Daniel Zorita really showed his touch with that goal: 1-2. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Leopoldo Rosa in the 63rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Victoriano Bernaldo made a fantastic save in the 66th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. Victoriano Bernaldo was out of position in the 66 minute of play, and Daniel Zorita capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Daniel Zorita really showed his touch with that goal: 1-3. Santo Libertad sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 75th minute of the match Dep Colonia Avellaneda got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Claudio Cerritos ran over to the corner to take the kick. Primitivo Andino thought of kicking away a contribution in front of goal but messed it up so badly that the ball went to the right of an astonished Julio Vera, a very annoying self made goal in the 75th minute which led to 2-4. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After recieving a nice pass, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita tried to score from far away in the 87th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Luis Andino hit a great ball. In the 91st minute Darryl Buckner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Dep Colonia Avellaneda throughout the match.
