The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Mateo Leguizamo kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. Cleto Inko hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. Moises Fernandino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Emilio Bikendi having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA's zone, Moises Fernandino stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Emilio Bikendi came out of the goal and Moises Fernandino tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ricardo Zorita made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mano Dios in the 21st minute of play. Moises Fernandino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Moises Fernandino in the 29th minute of play forced DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA's goalkeeper Emilio Bikendi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Emilio Bikendi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Moises Fernandino in the 32nd minute of play. Ricardo Zorita showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mano Dios, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Moises Fernandino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Emilio Bikendi having to interfere. Americo Boniel hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA's Marcial Flor was substituted for Generoso Goren. Moises Fernandino struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Emilio Bikendi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for El Salvador. After having played for 60 minutes, Abram Luque managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. El Salvador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abram Luque was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Lorenzo Yepes during the 65th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 68 played minutes El Salvador got a freekick which was hit by Marco Tamayo. Marco Tamayo hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in El Salvador's zone, Urbano Kusko stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ricardo Zorita came out of the goal and Urbano Kusko tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Moises Fernandino's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Emilio Bikendi firmly grabbed it by the left post. In the 80th minute, Enrique Mitxaut hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 84 minutes into the game, Jorge Magrina was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. El Salvador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA the free kick. A collision led to El Salvador getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Jorge Magrina hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA's Urbano Kusko got a free kick in the 93rd minute. After a defensive mix-up in DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA's zone, Moises Fernandino stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Emilio Bikendi came out of the goal and Moises Fernandino tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
