Sebastian Verón came free with the goalkeeper in the 31st minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Rolando Noboa could save by the left post. In the 33rd match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luz Tejedor to maneuver through the defense. When Eliseo Mina fell near the penalty area in the 43rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Peru's protests and gave Eliseo Mina a yellow card for diving instead. Sebastian Verón sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 46th minute of play forced Club Sportivo Quilmes's goalkeeper Pastor Firman to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 47 minutes, Sebastian Verón managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Sportivo Quilmes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sebastian Verón was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Julian Murillo to strike the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Peru's Milagros Fraga got a free kick in the 54th minute. With an all-out effort, Peru's Pastor Firman threw himself towards the right post 60 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Eliseo Mina, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Pastor Firman came out of the goal in the 60th minute to try and stop a shot by Peru's Eliseo Mina. But to his dismay, Eliseo Mina quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Silverio Chuan kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. Peru's Eliseo Mina quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Silverio Chuan, made in the 69th minute of the game. In the 70th minute, Luz Tejedor ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Pastor Firman was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Pastor Firman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luz Tejedor in the 72nd minute of the match. 73 minutes had been played when some careless play by Club Sportivo Quilmes's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Luz Tejedor was slow to take the kick. During this time Peru's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Peru's Eliseo Mina to fire away a dangerous shot which Pastor Firman despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 77 minutes into the match, Club Sportivo Quilmes's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Pastor Firman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pastor Firman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rafael Gallo in the 93rd minute of play. 95 minutes into the game, Rafael Gallo lined in a short shot 1-3 behind a frustrated Pastor Firman. Peru's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
