The supporters of A.A. Francana booed when Villaverde Celeste Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cesinha Dias didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 15th minute Mané Garrincha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Telmo Trigo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Telmo Trigo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mané Garrincha's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. When the match had gone on for 23 minutes, Mané Garrincha put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Telmo Trigo. Mané Garrincha blasted a shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Telmo Trigo having to make a save. Mané Garrincha received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Telmo Trigo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Telmo Trigo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mané Garrincha in the 38th minute of play. Telmo Trigo came out of the goal in the 39th minute to try and stop a shot by Villaverde Celeste Clube's Mané Garrincha. But to his dismay, Mané Garrincha quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. In the 42nd minute Mané Garrincha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Telmo Trigo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 42nd minute, Válbson Soeiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 43 minutes into the match, A.A. Francana's goal looked a bit too open when Mané Garrincha came free, but Telmo Trigo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 44th match minute, A.A. Francana was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Eduardo Rodrigues to maneuver through the defense. Alfredo Linares took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Adolfo Leite, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mané Garrincha to make the kick off. When the match clock showed 51 minutes, the score became 1-3 when Mané Garrincha sped through A.A. Francana's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Telmo Trigo. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Cesinha Dias during the 56th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Villaverde Celeste Clube getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Cesinha Dias hit a great ball. Telmo Trigo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mané Garrincha's shot from short distance in the 59th minute. After 59 minutes, Mané Garrincha made it 1-4 with a short kick to the right side. A.A. Francana's Telmo Trigo tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. When the match had gone on for 61 minutes, Mané Garrincha put it in 1-5 from a short distance just to the right of Telmo Trigo. Mané Garrincha did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-6 to the left of a surprised Telmo Trigo 71 minutes into the match. Mané Garrincha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Telmo Trigo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mané Garrincha in the 81st minute of the match. Alfredo Linares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Adolfo Leite, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. After 87 played minutes Villaverde Celeste Clube got a freekick which was hit by Alberto Galvão. The A.A. Francana supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Villaverde Celeste Clube's performance. The match ended with a win for Villaverde Celeste Clube.
