After 24 minutes, João Carlos Gaspar mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the S.E.R. Caxias do Sul and the Villaverde Celeste Clube players grew even worse after the yellow card. Frank Sten took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gianluigi Donnarumma. Gianluigi Donnarumma dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Alfredo Linares made a fantastic save in the 29th minute, when João Carlos Gaspar sent off a good shot on target. Gianluigi Donnarumma made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Frank Sten in the 33rd minute of play. Frank Sten struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Gianluigi Donnarumma didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Villaverde Celeste Clube. Mané Garrincha kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frank Sten in the 41st minute of play forced S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ladislao Mazurkiewicz made a kick off. João Carlos Gaspar hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. The supporters of S.E.R. Caxias do Sul booed when Villaverde Celeste Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cesinha Dias didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ivo Mello hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. Gianluigi Donnarumma showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Giuliano David, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Remo Valle kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. In the 69th match minute, Villaverde Celeste Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Waldemar Lucas to maneuver through the defense. Gianluigi Donnarumma made an important save on a dangerous shot by Frank Sten in the 71st minute. Alfredo Linares came out of the goal in the 74th minute to try and stop a shot by S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Ladislao Mazurkiewicz. But to his dismay, Ladislao Mazurkiewicz quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Gianluigi Donnarumma proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save S.E.R. Caxias do Sul from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Giuliano David in the 80th minute of play forced S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 84 played minutes, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Leopoldo Sanches shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Alfredo Linares came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in S.E.R. Caxias do Sul reached it. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Villaverde Celeste Clube players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
