The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The Venezuela fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonathan Ferrant should have stopped the shot. In the 11th minute of the game Gustavino Gómez made a throw-in which Arnaldo Mota played forward. In the 12th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jose Correa to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant got control of the ball when Arnaldo Mota tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mário Amaral in the 20th minute of the match. Tomas Illescas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Slawomir Czerwinski read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
