Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronnie Hellström having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kevin Keegan in the 10th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ronnie Hellström took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 12th minute of play forced Skövde AIK's goalkeeper Ronnie Hellström to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 13th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan Sebastián Puig to maneuver through the defense. Ronnie Hellström took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felix Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 21stth minute of the game Chen Ao Fan who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 22 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Gisbert. Skövde AIK's Ronnie Hellström played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felix Montenegro in the 26th minute of play. Ronnie Hellström made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 27th minute of play. Daniel Zorita might have been able to make a better finish in the 31st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ronnie Hellström. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Daniel Zorita ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ronnie Hellström breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ronnie Hellström made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 36th minute of play. Skövde AIK's Ronnie Hellström played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 38th minute of play. Chen Ao Fan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ronnie Hellström made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 46th minute of play. In the 46th minute, Daniel Zorita left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. 51 minutes into the game, Filip Brolin was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Skövde AIK's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick. A collision led to Skövde AIK getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Filip Brolin hit a great ball. The corner led Skövde AIK's Chen Ao Fan to fire away a dangerous shot which Julio Vera despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 59 minutes into the match, Skövde AIK's goalkeeper Ronnie Hellström had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Ronnie Hellström made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montenegro in the 63rd minute. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 71st minute, which Ronnie Hellström however easily saved by the left post. 73 minutes into the match, Skövde AIK's Chen Ao Fan sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronnie Hellström having to interfere. Skövde AIK's Ronnie Hellström proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save Skövde AIK from getting a goal against them. In the 82nd minute Skövde AIK were awarded a corner. Chen Ao Fan went to the cornerflag to take it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chen Ao Fan in the 85th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Ronnie Hellström made a huge save. When the match had gone on for 88 minutes, Daniel Zorita took a quick shot and it went in 0-2 without a chance for Ronnie Hellström to make any attempt to save it. Filip Brolin got his second yellow card in the match during the 92nd minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 93rd minute, Filip Brolin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ronnie Hellström was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 94th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Daniel Zorita. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Skövde AIK throughout the match.
