The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Nuno Teves the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Sport Maia protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Nuno Teves had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 5 minutes into the game, one of Sport Maia:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Sport Maia:s Albérico Igrejas showed great skill when he stopped Brian Laudrup:s penalty. Albérico Igrejas didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Brian Laudrup went, in the 7th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. In the 11th minute the ball was on its way in behind Saga TF's goalkeeper Joachim Forseth, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 13 minutes into the match, Saga TF's goal looked a bit too open when Hilário Malheiro came free, but Joachim Forseth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 13th minute, Apolo Bihar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 16th minute of the match Saga TF got a corner. Sport Maia's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Brian Laudrup ran over to the corner to take the kick. Iwo Gendolla was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Erik Cantona struck a weak shot in the 35th minute. Albérico Igrejas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Saga TF. A collision led to Saga TF getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Arne Botnen hit a great ball. Albérico Igrejas made a fantastic save in the 39th minute, when Erik Cantona sent off a good shot on target. With a little luck, Sport Maia's Albérico Igrejas got control of the ball when Erik Cantona tried to sneak it across the goal line. Hermano Novais made in the 45th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Saga TF's Trond Gilde. A collision led to Saga TF getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Arne Botnen hit a great ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Hilário Malheiro made a kick off. After 55th play minutes Erik Cantona shot 2-0, a short shot which went by Albérico Igrejas and just under the crossbar into goal. Erik Cantona struck a weak shot in the 62nd minute. Albérico Igrejas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erik Cantona in the 64th minute of play. Sport Maia's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
