Viggo Berggren was slow to take the kick. During this time Salem Gunners BK's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Salem Gunners BK's corner Viggo Berggren fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Jonathan Ferrant quite easily take care of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 20th minute of play forced Salem Gunners BK's goalkeeper Prodromos Britzolidis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Svante Gustafsson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jonathan Ferrant read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. After 30 minutes Salem Gunners BK's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Tomas Illescas who took care of the corner kick. It was a well-played corner which Jose Correa managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. In the 40th minute, Tomas Illescas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 45th minute Patricio Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Prodromos Britzolidis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tomas Illescas to strike the kick off in the second half. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Salem Gunners BK.
