Placido Belmiro in the 16thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Julio Vera, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. In the 32nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 33rd minute of the match, Placido Belmiro got a very nice opportunity to score, but Julio Vera was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Natã Travassos prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Placido Belmiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Natã Travassos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Natã Travassos in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 69th minute Placido Belmiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If 袁迪真 had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Natã Travassos made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 76th minute.
