The wind increased when Claudiu Bumba made the kick off in the second half. If Ragnar Lodbrok had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ragnar Lodbrok in the 63rd minute of play. In the 64th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Montenegro to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Claudiu Bumba kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. 73 minutes into the match, Axenstein's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Andino came free, but Michele Rieger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 74 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Michele Rieger narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Many of Ecuador's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Ecuador may have spent more time on the ball, but Axenstein were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
