The referee felt a red card was in order, 54 minutes into the game, when Basilio Bixintxo put in a rough tackle. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 53rd minute of the game. One of CACYFA:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Ecuador:s goal. When Daniel Zorita fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ecuador's protests and gave Daniel Zorita a yellow card for diving instead. In the 68th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Luis Quirce in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Alfredo Emeterio charged in rather forcefully in the 96th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alfredo Emeterio the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Alfredo Emeterio hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than CACYFA.
