Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Luiz Gustavo Paes started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Tiago Xavier scored 1-0 in the 3rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 7th minute, Alan Moruga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Juan Rubio fell near the penalty area in the 11th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Juan Rubio a yellow card for diving instead. Luiz Gustavo Paes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 12th minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Luís Eduardo Salles stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Luís Eduardo Salles tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 18 minutes had been played when some careless play by Costa Rica's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Tiago Xavier was slow to take the kick. During this time Esporte Club Bahia's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Esporte Club Bahia's Gernando Moreira to fire away a dangerous shot which Benito Sanz despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Marcelo Lomba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eliseo Noboa in the 20th minute of play. Marcelo Lomba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eliseo Noboa in the 21st minute of the match. Luiz Gustavo Paes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Tiago Xavier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Luís Eduardo Salles took the ball and in the 32 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Esporte Club Bahia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Yan Furtado didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tiago Xavier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.
In the 50th minute, Luiz Gustavo Paes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 50 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Luiz Gustavo Paes came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 54 minutes into the match, Esporte Club Bahia's goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Axel Tasis. Luiz Gustavo Paes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When Luiz Gustavo Paes came up free with the goalie in the 56th minute, the Esporte Club Bahia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luiz Gustavo Paes couldn't finish the play. 57 minutes into the match, Luís Eduardo Salles notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Costa Rica's Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Luiz Gustavo Paes came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Esporte Club Bahia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luiz Gustavo Paes couldn't finish the play. After 64 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Alan Moruga. 68 minutes into the match, Esporte Club Bahia's goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Axel Tasis. 72 minutes into the match, Luís Eduardo Salles had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Luís Eduardo Salles was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-0. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Luís Eduardo Salles went, in the 75th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-0 was the resulting score. Eliseo Noboa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Marcelo Lomba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 90thth minute of the game Luiz Gustavo Paes who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Costa Rica's Benito Sanz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Axel Tasis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcelo Lomba having to interfere. There was no doubt that Esporte Club Bahia were the better team. Esporte Club Bahia's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
