The supporters of Wellington Phoenix booed when Stakendijk was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oliver Hellemons didn't get a good kick on the ball. Stakendijk's Luke Boegaerts played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Art Schulze in the 8th minute of play. Sabastian Beins showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mario Klinkenberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. 11 minutes into the match, Wellington Phoenix's goal looked a bit too open when Oliver Hellemons came free, but Sabastian Beins reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 11th minute, Curtis Hilton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Wellington Phoenix's supporters rose to their feet, but Curtis Hilton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luke Boegaerts breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 13th minute of the game. One of Wellington Phoenix:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Stakendijk:s goal. Wellington Phoenix:s Sabastian Beins showed great skill when he stopped Lieven Van Linthaudt:s penalty. 15 minutes into the match, Lieven Van Linthaudt notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Wellington Phoenix's Sabastian Beins. Sabastian Beins was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 20 minutes into the match, Stakendijk's goal looked a bit too open when Curtis Hilton came free, but Luke Boegaerts reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Art Schulze recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 21st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Thibaud Goorts got free with Sabastian Beins in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 35 minutes into the match, Stakendijk's goal looked a bit too open when Downing Beverly came free, but Luke Boegaerts reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 45 minutes into the match, Art Schulze had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luke Boegaerts. Stakendijk's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Art Schulze was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Art Schulze was the one to do the kick off. Through an outstanding action, after 56 minutes, Luke Boegaerts successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Luke Boegaerts took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Art Schulze, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 61st minute, Curtis Hilton hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 62nd minute, Fabrice Goemyne hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Art Schulze sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
