After 57 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Antonio Arias. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Giotis Michailidis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Giotis Michailidis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Daniel Zorita who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 59thth minute tested the skills of Edvin van der Saar when he managed to save the team from getting behind. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 64th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. Someliéri's Edvin van der Saar proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to save Someliéri from getting a goal against them. Ecuador's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 91st minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Giotis Michailidis in the 94th minute of play. 96 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Felix Montes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Edvin van der Saar narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Someliéri were victorious despite being under pressure from Ecuador for much of the match.
