Colombia's Pedro Manzanares proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save Colombia from getting a goal against them. Judas Verón received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Pedro Manzanares came out and tried to block the shot, but Judas Verón slotted it home off the left post making it 3-2 in the 48th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-2 at half-time.

The Colombia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pedro Manzanares should have stopped the shot. If Iulian Ilinca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
