In the 3rd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ivan Chiuzbaian saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Emil Wielopolski managed to get in a good position for a shot. Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s supporters rose to their feet, but Emil Wielopolski was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s Ivan Chiuzbaian played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 7th minute of play. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zhao Sen Yang, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 15thth minute of the game Zhao Sen Yang who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Zhao Sen Yang scored 1-0 in the 17th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Phoenix Baia-Mare -MM-'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Zhao Sen Yang was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Emil Wielopolski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 33rd minute of the match, Emil Wielopolski tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Julio Vera saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. 39 minutes into the match, Emil Wielopolski dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Julio Vera, 2-0. In the 42nd match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Camilo Gisbert to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zhao Sen Yang, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
