Sebastian Abechuco made in the 3rd minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Peru's Alonso Berganza. Julian Murillo scored 0-1 in the 8th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Belchior Saldanha, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, La Gallardeta's Jan-Olof Eliasson got a free kick in the 12th minute. La Gallardeta's Belchior Saldanha played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julian Murillo in the 18th minute of play. Fulgencio Gartzi blasted a shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rolando Noboa having to make a save. In the 20th minute Fulgencio Gartzi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Belchior Saldanha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 27 minutes into the match, Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jan-Olof Eliasson. Rolando Noboa didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 29th minute, which inside left pole to 1-1. In the 36th minute Peru were awarded a corner. Luz Tejedor went to the cornerflag to take it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 40th minute of play forced La Gallardeta's goalkeeper Belchior Saldanha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 42nd match minute, La Gallardeta was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sebastian Abechuco to maneuver through the defense. Belchior Saldanha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of La Gallardeta booed when Peru was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alonso Berganza didn't get a good kick on the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Julian Murillo to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute the ball was on its way in behind La Gallardeta's goalkeeper Belchior Saldanha, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 53rd minute Peru were awarded a corner. Luz Tejedor went to the cornerflag to take it. It was a well-played corner which Eliseo Mina managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. In the 57th minute of the match Peru got a corner. La Gallardeta's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Luz Tejedor ran over to the corner to take the kick. 60 minutes into the match, La Gallardeta's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Belchior Saldanha reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 62nd minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Belchior Saldanha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julian Murillo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Belchior Saldanha read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 64th minute of play. 66 minutes had been played when some careless play by La Gallardeta's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Luz Tejedor was slow to take the kick. During this time Peru's players had a chance to rest. The corner went over the outstretched arms of La Gallardeta's goalie and right to Eliseo Mina. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. La Gallardeta's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. With a little luck, La Gallardeta's Belchior Saldanha got control of the ball when Milagros Fraga tried to sneak it across the goal line. Belchior Saldanha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 75th minute, Vinicio Polentzi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Belchior Saldanha showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Murillo in the 79th minute of the match. Peru's Julian Murillo got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Peru made a substitution. Eliseo Alcocer replaced Moises Gayoso. Peru's Rafael Gallo was substituted for Julian Murillo. With a little luck, La Gallardeta's Belchior Saldanha got control of the ball when Antonio Tenorio tried to sneak it across the goal line. Peru's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Eliseo Mina in the 87th minute. The corner led Peru's Rafael Gallo to fire away a dangerous shot which Belchior Saldanha despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Sebastian Abechuco made in the 89th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Peru's Alonso Berganza. Rafael Gallo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The throw-in from Sebastian Abechuco in the 94th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Peru's Alonso Berganza. Anthony Alvarado charged in rather forcefully in the 96th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Anthony Alvarado the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Peru's Anthony Alvarado got a free kick in the 96th minute. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Peru players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
