Ryszard Bazan might have been able to make a better finish in the 15th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. In the 25th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Julio Vera was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Patryk Tuliszewski showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 27 minute of play. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Stefan Hoffman breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
