In the 28th match minute, S E Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Berdaitz Puebla to maneuver through the defense. Tomas Illescas might have been able to make a better finish in the 40th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Astor Aragones. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tomas Illescas ran back to his position shaking his head.

Patricio Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 50th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Astor Aragones having to interfere. Jose Correa kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. Jonathan Ferrant didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Lázaro Bortzaioriz went, in the 62nd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. In the 74th minute of the match Alfredinho Britto shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jonathan Ferrant showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lázaro Bortzaioriz in the 75th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Patricio Costa's late challenge caught a S E Palmeiras's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Patricio Costa helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of S E Palmeiras booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position.
