Julian Murillo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Artzai Tarin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 13th minute of play. In the 14th minute Peru were awarded a corner. Luz Tejedor went to the cornerflag to take it. Peru's Rolando Noboa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 16th minute of the match, managed to save Peru from getting a goal against them. In the 28th minute Manole Cristoiu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Aimar Barro got free with Rolando Noboa in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Rafael Gallo came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Peru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rafael Gallo couldn't finish the play. Lopes Maysonet hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. A throw-in in the 92nd minute of the game was made by Franco Grau with Lopes Maysonet as target, who quickly passed the ball forward.
