Kenny Ekeberg's late challenge caught a Costa Rica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kenny Ekeberg helped the player get up and apologised. After 11 played minutes Karlsborg got a freekick which was hit by Kenny Ekeberg. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eliseo Noboa in the 11th minute of play forced Karlsborg's goalkeeper Aron Vikström to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 38th match minute, Karlsborg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wiktor Karlstedt to maneuver through the defense. Lautaro Puig sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Matthias Borre during the 43rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 42 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Karlsborg! The referee gave Costa Rica a penalty, 44 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Axel Tasis, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Karlsborg's Aron Vikström. 3-1. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Axel Tasis stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Lautaro Puig came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lautaro Puig couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Axel Tasis got free with Aron Vikström in the 82nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 88th minute of the match, Axel Tasis tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Aron Vikström saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kenny Ekeberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. Eliseo Noboa received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Aron Vikström came out and tried to block the shot, but Eliseo Noboa slotted it home off the left post making it 4-2 in the 93rd minute. Costa Rica's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
