Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Julian Murillo in the 15th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Andriy Lunin prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by David Elodio in the 19th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by David Elodio in the 21st minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by David Elodio in the 23rd minute of play. 26 minutes into the match, Peru's Julian Murillo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Andriy Lunin narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

In the 53rd minute David Elodio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With an all-out effort, Peru's Andriy Lunin threw himself towards the right post 55 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Eliseo Mina, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Julian Murillo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 60th minute of the match, but Andriy Lunin made a huge save. Peru were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
