Garth Brough could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 10th minute of the match, but Joaquin Gayoso made a huge save. Australian Youth Academy's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Cesar Cornelius in the 11th minute. It was a well-played corner which Brown Haslett managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Garth Brough in the 14thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Joaquin Gayoso, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Garth Brough sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a little luck, Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso got control of the ball when Garth Brough tried to sneak it across the goal line. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to save Uruguay from getting a goal against them. The throw-in from Jorge Sainz in the 19th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Australian Youth Academy's Rufus Roach. After a defensive mix-up in Australian Youth Academy's zone, Maximiliano Escribano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Keylor Navas came out of the goal and Maximiliano Escribano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Keylor Navas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Francisco Seco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Francisco Seco stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 56 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Garth Brough came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Joaquin Gayoso stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Garth Brough's shot from short distance in the 58th minute. In the 59th minute Garth Brough shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joaquin Gayoso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 61st minute of the match, Francisco Seco got a very nice opportunity to score, but Keylor Navas was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Joaquin Gayoso was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Joaquin Gayoso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Garth Brough in the 89th minute of play. In the 91st minute, Garth Brough hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 92 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Garth Brough came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Garth Brough managed to get in a good position for a shot. Australian Youth Academy's supporters rose to their feet, but Garth Brough was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joaquin Gayoso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Uruguay's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
