An unexpectedly hard shot by Alain Berset in the 19th minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Julian Murillo came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Peru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Julian Murillo couldn't finish the play. Marco Odermatt's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rolando Noboa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. In the 91st minute, Rafael Gallo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some careless play in the Espen Steelers defense, Rafael Gallo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gregor Kobel. The Espen Steelers fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gregor Kobel should have stopped the shot. Gregor Kobel stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rafael Gallo's shot from short distance in the 96th minute. Peru's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
