Gerrit Hardering made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 20th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Guillermo Mariano during the 32nd minute. After 36 played minutes New England Patriots got a freekick which was hit by Fellipe Penha. 40 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ricardinho Macedo. Sahnoyan Şah fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The referee ignored New England Patriots's protests and gave Fellipe Penha a yellow card for diving instead. After 57 played minutes New England Patriots got a freekick which was hit by Fellipe Penha. Venezuela's Tomas Illescas got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of New England Patriots booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Patricio Costa didn't get a good kick on the ball. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over New England Patriots's much stronger midfield.
