The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Petrigai Guau in the 4th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Venezuela's Patricio Costa managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Brion Retana in the 6 minute of the game. The audience was convinced that Tomas Illescas's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Göran Bröms was relentless in the 7th minute of the game. After having played for 8 minutes, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tomas Illescas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Radoslaw Zagrodny could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 17th minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. Gilberto Thuram charged in rather forcefully in the 19th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gilberto Thuram the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to BRUGGE FC getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Gilberto Thuram hit a great ball. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from 蒋誉朋 in the 23rd minute of play. Gilberto Thuram kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. After 28 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Gaos. 32 minutes had been played when some careless play by BRUGGE FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Tomas Illescas was slow to take the kick. During this time Venezuela's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Tomas Illescas got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Göran Bröms quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. BRUGGE FC's Göran Bröms played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joshua Secada in the 33rd minute of play. 34 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rui Avelar. BRUGGE FC's Göran Bröms played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 37th minute of play. Venezuela's defense didn't have a chance, in the 38th minute, when Helder Cadanes scored to the left of an out of position Jonathan Ferrant, making the score, 1-0. 41 minutes into the game, Jonathan Venegas was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Venezuela's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave BRUGGE FC the free kick. In the 41st minute, Jonathan Venegas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to BRUGGE FC getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Serafim Salles hit a great ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Tomas Illescas made the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Göran Bröms narrowly saved just below the crossbar. BRUGGE FC's Imre Szabó was substituted for Radoslaw Zagrodny. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Tomas Illescas hit a great ball. If Helder Cadanes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Rui Avelar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. The supporters of BRUGGE FC booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jonathan Venegas didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Guillermo Mariano during the 79th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Guillermo Mariano hit a great freekick 79 minutes into the match. Tomas Illescas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Göran Bröms having to make a save. Tomas Illescas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Göran Bröms tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. BRUGGE FC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Venezuela for a fine match.
