Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Saint Etienne's Bernhard Krier started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a defensive mix-up in Saint Etienne's zone, Eraldo Pozzo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gregory Hildmann came out of the goal and Eraldo Pozzo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 12th minute, Emiliano Mazzocchetti ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gregory Hildmann was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. In the 15th minute, Montorfano's Cristiano Panino seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Cristiano Panino the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Montorfano protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Cristiano Panino had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 15th minute, one of Montorfano:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Montorfano. In the 17th minute there was a penalty for Saint Etienne. Timothy Hantzsch stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Ciccio Di Tommaso. 1-1. If Alfonso Monti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bernhard Krier took the ball and in the 28 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ciccio Di Tommaso. Ciccio Di Tommaso dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. After a defensive mix-up in Saint Etienne's zone, Fabio Pompilio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gregory Hildmann came out of the goal and Fabio Pompilio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Eraldo Pozzo hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eraldo Pozzo in the 38th minute of play forced Saint Etienne's goalkeeper Gregory Hildmann to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Montorfano's Ciccio Di Tommaso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bernhard Krier in the 43rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bernhard Krier in the 47th minute of play forced Montorfano's goalkeeper Ciccio Di Tommaso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
After 51 played minutes Montorfano got a freekick which was hit by Dennis Apolloni. If Jonas Majerus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Franco Ronconi made in the 55th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Alfonso Monti however managed to control. Saint Etienne's Gregory Hildmann played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fabio Pompilio in the 58th minute of play. After 69 played minutes Saint Etienne got a freekick which was hit by Raphaël Favre. In the 77th minute the ball was on its way in behind Saint Etienne's goalkeeper Gregory Hildmann, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Eraldo Pozzo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 79th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bernhard Krier in the 80th minute of play forced Montorfano's goalkeeper Ciccio Di Tommaso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Emiliano Mazzocchetti charged in rather forcefully in the 86th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Emiliano Mazzocchetti the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Saint Etienne's Timothy Hantzsch shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 87th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Ciccio Di Tommaso but with some difficulty. If Bernhard Krier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Klaus Hirsch fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ciccio Di Tommaso having to interfere.
