Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Saint Etienne's Bernhard Krier started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Gregory Hildmann took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eraldo Cocca, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ciccio Di Tommaso came out of the goal in the 13th minute to try and stop a shot by Saint Etienne's Jonas Majerus. But to his dismay, Jonas Majerus quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. In the 16th match minute, Montorfano was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Daniele Cherubini to maneuver through the defense. In the 21st minute Emiliano Mazzocchetti shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gregory Hildmann saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ciccio Di Tommaso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Günther Lentz, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. 33 minutes into the match, Eraldo Cocca notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Saint Etienne's Gregory Hildmann. Gregory Hildmann was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 37 minutes into the match, Saint Etienne's goal looked a bit too open when Eraldo Cocca came free, but Gregory Hildmann reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eraldo Pozzo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Montorfano booed when Saint Etienne was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Raphaël Favre didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Bernhard Krier came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Saint Etienne fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bernhard Krier couldn't finish the play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.
After a defensive mix-up in Montorfano's zone, Günther Lentz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ciccio Di Tommaso came out of the goal and Günther Lentz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jonas Majerus in the 53rd minute of play forced Montorfano's goalkeeper Ciccio Di Tommaso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 55 played minutes Montorfano got a freekick which was hit by Daniele Cherubini. Eraldo Pozzo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Gregory Hildmann tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alfonso Monti received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ciccio Di Tommaso prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ciccio Di Tommaso made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-2. After 85 minutes of play, Montorfano's Eraldo Pozzo made it 3-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gregory Hildmann was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ciccio Di Tommaso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jonas Majerus, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
