A collision led to Juventus getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Edoardo Troiano hit a great ball. Saint Etienne's Günther Lentz got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Saint Etienne's Harry Thielemann got a free kick in the 26th minute. In the 27th minute, Edoardo Troiano reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Gregory Hildmann. The goal made the score 1-1. Alessandro Miccoli made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Günther Lentz in the 30th minute of play. Günther Lentz made in the 32nd minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Juventus's Edoardo Troiano. 33 minutes into the game, Saint Etienne's Bernhard Krier nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alessandro Miccoli made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. 38 minutes in the game Anselmo Parco did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Davide Santo. 43 minutes into the game, Lutz Schlaustein was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Saint Etienne's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Juventus the free kick. In the 43rd minute, Lutz Schlaustein hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Günther Lentz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bernhard Krier to make the kick off. In the 54th minute, Damiano Nicolini left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Juventus fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. Alvise Di Fabio lost his temper 58 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. Alessandro Miccoli was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Bernhard Krier showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-3 in the 63 minute of play. Davide Santo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Gregory Hildmann tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Bernhard Krier kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Alessandro Miccoli. That made the score 2-5 in the 85 minute of play. Edoardo Troiano kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. A collision led to Saint Etienne getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Günther Lentz hit a great ball. When the final whistle sounded Saint Etienne left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Juventus.
