After some careless play in the Encarale a la gordita defense, Felix Montenegro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Laerte Messias. The Encarale a la gordita fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Laerte Messias should have stopped the shot. Agustín Saelices received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Laerte Messias tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 17 minutes into the game, Teobaldo Orlanda cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Julio Vera was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 23rd minute of play forced Encarale a la gordita's goalkeeper Laerte Messias to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Laerte Messias made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jacobo Dodorol to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Encarale a la gordita's Jaime Paskal got a free kick in the 59th minute. 59 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In the 62nd minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Laerte Messias was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Laerte Messias showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 67th minute of the match. Encarale a la gordita's Laerte Messias proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 69th minute of the match, managed to save Encarale a la gordita from getting a goal against them. Laerte Messias made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montenegro in the 73rd minute. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Encarale a la gordita was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jesus Derwin didn't get a good kick on the ball. Felix Montenegro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 83rd minute of the match, but Laerte Messias made a huge save. Laerte Messias showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Andino in the 84th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 87th minute of the match, but Laerte Messias made a huge save. In the 90th minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Laerte Messias was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 92 minutes into the game, Cristian Sancho recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Laerte Messias. Cristian Sancho showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-4. Laerte Messias showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felix Montenegro, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. Ecuador played a much better game than Encarale a la gordita and deserved their victory. The Encarale a la gordita players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
