After 5 played minutes VfL Wolfsburg got a freekick which was hit by Martin Hedlund. In the 14th minute, Jerry Fristedt ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Beppe Savoia was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. The supporters of Carloforte f.c. booed when VfL Wolfsburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kenneth Wallander didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 33rd minute, Jerry Fristedt made a precise shot to the right of Beppe Savoia. Olle Tunander made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arturo De Vito in the 38th minute of play. Beppe Savoia made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jerry Fristedt in the 47th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Arturo De Vito stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Alessandro Iacovella shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Olle Tunander saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Carloforte f.c. were awarded a corner in the 55th minute after VfL Wolfsburg's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Armin Scotti took the corner. In the 56th minute, Alessandro Iacovella reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Olle Tunander. The goal made the score 2-2. In the 59th match minute, VfL Wolfsburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rasmus Backlund to maneuver through the defense. After 62 played minutes Carloforte f.c. got a freekick which was hit by Cristiano Panza. Arturo De Vito's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 65thth minute, Olle Tunander skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Ercole Galeone hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. 69 minutes into the match, Carloforte f.c.'s goal looked a bit too open when Alfons Delin came free, but Beppe Savoia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Arturo De Vito had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 75 minutes, Jerry Fristedt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. VfL Wolfsburg's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jerry Fristedt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Patrick Albom blasted a shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Beppe Savoia having to make a save. Beppe Savoia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfons Delin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Beppe Savoia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfons Delin in the 92nd minute of play. The VfL Wolfsburg manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Carloforte f.c. to win.
