Maximino Berto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 15th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Maximino Berto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Armando Borja hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. Maximino Berto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 22nd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Besart Pango stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Besart Pango tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Armando Borja fell near the penalty area in the 30th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored A.K.Sh Albania's protests and gave Armando Borja a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, A.K.Sh Albania's Armando Borja got a free kick in the 30th minute. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nertil Ramos to make the kick off. Despite being the better team, Ecuador failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
