De Pelgrims's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Julian Murillo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. In the 7th minute Henk Cardinaal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 14th minute Eliseo Mina shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mike Zoetmulder saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mike Zoetmulder saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mike Zoetmulder showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luz Tejedor in the 18th minute of the match. If Julian Murillo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Perivaldo Eger in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rolando Noboa saved Peru from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luz Tejedor in the 28th minute of play forced De Pelgrims's goalkeeper Mike Zoetmulder to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Milagros Fraga recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mike Zoetmulder took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mike Zoetmulder showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luz Tejedor in the 34th minute of the match. After 36 minutes, Luz Tejedor mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Peru and the De Pelgrims players grew even worse after the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 47th minute of play forced De Pelgrims's goalkeeper Mike Zoetmulder to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The throw-in from Zé Pedro Figueiredo in the 50th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Peru's Eliseo Mina. Peru's Julian Murillo got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mathias de Ruijter in the 53rd minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rolando Noboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Perivaldo Eger in the 55th minute of play. In the 58th minute Mathias de Ruijter shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Perivaldo Eger in the 62nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Perivaldo Eger in the 72nd minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 73rd minute, Milagros Fraga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rolando Noboa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Perivaldo Eger's shot from short distance in the 78th minute. Mike Zoetmulder was a little too slow when Julian Murillo got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 81st minute. The score was now 1-2. Peru made a substitution. Eliseo Alcocer replaced Moises Gayoso. 90 minutes into the match, De Pelgrims's goalkeeper Mike Zoetmulder had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Antonio Tenorio. The supporters of Peru booed when De Pelgrims was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Henk Cardinaal didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mike Zoetmulder made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rafael Gallo in the 93rd minute. In the 95th match minute, De Pelgrims was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Erben Roelofs to maneuver through the defense.
