In the 10th minute of the match Horacio Abajas sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Julio Vera skillfully saved the ball. Lazaros Kabantais made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 27th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Los Materos FC's Eleuterio Rufio got a free kick in the 28th minute. 1-0 became the score in the 32nd minute when Horacio Abajas elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Los Materos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Larpe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Aaron Molina hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Lazaros Kabantais in the 53rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Filomeno Mendebal in the 56th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Los Materos FC's Horacio Abajas got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Los Materos FC made a substitution. This resulted in a 2-1 score and a disappointed Lazaros Kabantais as he didn't even see the shot coming. When Tincho Palermo came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Los Materos FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tincho Palermo couldn't finish the play. Ecuador's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Los Materos FC had won, even though Ecuador had held more of the ball.
