But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Felix Montenegro couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Black Rose 1979 booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gerardo Hitz in the 11th minute. Karl-Johan Ahlqvist came out of the goal in the 14th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Cristian Sancho. But to his dismay, Cristian Sancho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. In the 24th minute, Daniel Zorita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Karl-Johan Ahlqvist was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 34 minutes into the game, Agustín Saelices cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Karl-Johan Ahlqvist was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 42 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montes. In the 45th match minute, Black Rose 1979 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sebastian Enekoitz to maneuver through the defense. In the 46th match minute, Black Rose 1979 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by João Garcia to maneuver through the defense.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Gerardo Hitz made a kick off. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gerardo Hitz, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Sebastián Cassin kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 57th minute. Karl-Johan Ahlqvist didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. After a rather tough play, Black Rose 1979's Sebastián Cassin got a free kick in the 63rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gerardo Hitz in the 64th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 67 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Cristian Sancho. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Waldemar Matorin's shot from short distance in the 72nd minute. 74 minutes into the match, Black Rose 1979's goalkeeper Karl-Johan Ahlqvist had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Waldemar Matorin in the 77th minute of play. In the 79th minute, Agustín Saelices hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Karl-Johan Ahlqvist in the 85th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Karl-Johan Ahlqvist made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 91st minute. 95 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Gerardo Hitz came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
