An unexpectedly hard shot by Berkan Temel in the 8th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Berkan Temel's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. Eduardo Pereyra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Felix Montenegro in the 29th minute of the match. 30 minutes had been played when some careless play by New York Red Bulls's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that New York Red Bulls's Eduardo Pereyra managed to reach the ball for a save. The audience was convinced that Berkan Temel's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Felix Montenegro in the 33rd minute of play forced New York Red Bulls's goalkeeper Eduardo Pereyra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Berkan Temel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Marian Balint recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Salih Şahsuvaroğlu hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Berkan Temel in the 52nd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 54th minute Berkan Temel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Basarab Panduru, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Doru Coman in the 60th minute of play. Anton Tăutu hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. In the 65th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eduardo Pereyra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Felix Montenegros short, quick shot in the 66thth minute got Eduardo Pereyra to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Luis Andino was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Antonio Arias hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. 71 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Berkan Temel came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Eduardo Pereyra in the 75th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Basarab Panduru in the 77th minute of the match. In the 83rd minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Eduardo Pereyra was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 84 minutes into the match, New York Red Bulls's Marian Balint sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 87 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Frank Rijkaard came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, New York Red Bulls's Eduardo Pereyra got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. Julio Vera came out of the goal in the 97th minute to try and stop a shot by New York Red Bulls's Basarab Panduru. But to his dismay, Basarab Panduru quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. The New York Red Bulls players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
