The supporters of Esporte Club Bahia booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abel Carballo didn't get a good kick on the ball. 13 minutes into the game, Eliseo Noboa cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Marcelo Lomba was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 15th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lautaro Puig to maneuver through the defense. Luiz Gustavo Paes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 16th minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. 17 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luís Eduardo Salles. 17 minutes into the game, Esporte Club Bahia's Luís Eduardo Salles nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Benito Sanz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luís Eduardo Salles in the 20th minute. After 36 played minutes Esporte Club Bahia got a freekick which was hit by Luís Eduardo Salles. Luiz Gustavo Paes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. In the 41st minute, Esporte Club Bahia's Luís Eduardo Salles dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-2. In the 45th minute, Alexander Carballo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-2. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Axel Tasis to make the kick off. When Clóvis Passos came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Esporte Club Bahia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Clóvis Passos couldn't finish the play. 52 minutes into the game, Juan Rubio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Esporte Club Bahia the free kick. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Juan Rubio hit a great ball. Luís Eduardo Salles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. After 59 played minutes, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Costa Rica reached it. Tiago Xavier struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. Benito Sanz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Esporte Club Bahia. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Gustavo Paes in the 75th minute of play. Yan Furtado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Luís Eduardo Salles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luís Eduardo Salles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Axel Tasis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 87th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Gustavo Paes in the 89th minute of play. Esporte Club Bahia walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
