Jacobo Nores made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Oliverios in the 17th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Albert Zapatero got free with Jacobo Nores in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Tommi Lundells short, quick shot in the 25thth minute got Jacobo Nores to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Jacobo Nores made an important save on a dangerous shot by Albert Zapatero in the 30th minute. When Tommi Lundell came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Spa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tommi Lundell couldn't finish the play. In the 34th minute, Hector Covarrubias got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Paraguay's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal.
