Foguera's Santiago Cañizares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luis Andino in the 7th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 8 minutes, Ivan Rubio took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Julio Vera to make any attempt to save it. Ecuador's Luis Andino got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Santiago Cañizares having to interfere. Yuvenaliy Berezovskiy recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers David Villa in the 18th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Ivan Rubio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Ivan Rubio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from David Villa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 28th minute after Foguera's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 30th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. Foguera's Santiago Cañizares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 32nd minute of play. Ivan Rubio kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. In the 34th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Santiago Cañizares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Santiago Cañizares didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Daniel Zorita went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Juan Sebastián Puig got a free kick in the 38th minute. In the 39th minute Anton Sundin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 42 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ivan Rubio. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
52 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Santiago Cañizares narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 53rd minute. In the 55th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Foguera's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. After a defensive mix-up in Foguera's zone, Agustín Saelices stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Santiago Cañizares came out of the goal and Agustín Saelices tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 61st minute, Luis-Miguel Rienda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Anton Sundin fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Foguera's protests and gave Anton Sundin a yellow card for diving instead. 73 minutes into the game, one of Foguera:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Foguera:s Santiago Cañizares showed great skill when he stopped Daniel Zorita:s penalty. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from David Villa, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Cristian Sancho came free with the goalkeeper in the 79th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Santiago Cañizares could save by the left post. The corner ended in Daniel Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Foguera's Santiago Cañizares did a great save. Santiago Cañizares made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 82nd minute. With splendid footwork Cristian Sancho arrived in front of goal to shoot 1-2 by the left pole in the game's 84th minute. Allande Soto hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. In the 96th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Santiago Cañizares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador played a much better game than Foguera and deserved their victory. The Foguera players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
