When the match had gone on for 26 minutes, Iustin Bungeanu took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Julio Vera to make any attempt to save it. Camilo Gisbert charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. In the 45th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.

The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Luke Clist ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. After 53 played minutes Palmeiras got a freekick which was hit by Gusmão Bettencourt. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luke Clist, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute.
