The audience thought a goal was coming when Quentin Gonzalez got free with Julio Vera in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 39 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Quentin Gonzalez. Zarando Lastras made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 40th minute of play. The corner ended in Daniel Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Atlético Maravilla's Zarando Lastras did a great save. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Quentin Gonzalez stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51stth minute of the game Quentin Gonzalez who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball.
