When Eliseo Mina came up free with the goalie in the 4th minute, the Peru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eliseo Mina couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 9th minute of play forced PIAUÍ FC's goalkeeper Iurie Chiriacescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rolando Noboa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mete Gøl in the 15th minute of play. Peru's Eliseo Mina managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Joaquim Ubiña in the 18 minute of the game. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind PIAUÍ FC's goalkeeper Iurie Chiriacescu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Iurie Chiriacescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 27th minute of play. Iurie Chiriacescu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Murillo in the 29th minute of the match. Peru were awarded a corner in the 30th minute after PIAUÍ FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Luz Tejedor took the corner. A collision led to PIAUÍ FC getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Joaquim Ubiña hit a great ball. In the 39th minute Mete Gøl shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Peru's Joaquin Prats got a free kick in the 44th minute. When Peru's Julian Murillo in the 47th minute got a chance for a shot 47th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye PIAUÍ FC's goalie prevented a goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Iurie Chiriacescu came out of the goal in the 81st minute to try and stop a shot by Peru's Julian Murillo. But to his dismay, Julian Murillo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Peru's Rafael Gallo was substituted for Julian Murillo. Peru made a substitution. Antonio Tenorio replaced Luz Tejedor. Iurie Chiriacescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rafael Gallo in the 94th minute of play. The supporters of Peru booed when PIAUÍ FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulo Batista didn't get a good kick on the ball. Peru played a much better game than PIAUÍ FC and deserved their victory. The PIAUÍ FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
