Benknotorna's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Costa Rica the free kick. In a very dangerous position, a player in Benknotorna fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 14th minute. Penalty! The referee gave Costa Rica a penalty, 15 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Axel Tasis, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Benknotorna's Arvin Ekerot. 0-1. After having played for 22 minutes, Geraldo Trullols managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Benknotorna's supporters crossed their fingers, but Geraldo Trullols was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Johan Vall sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Benknotorna booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abel Carballo didn't get a good kick on the ball. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Eliseo Noboa stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Kurt Bure stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Kurt Bure tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Benknotorna booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benknotorna's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
