The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 22nd minute of play forced Floripa Lions FSCMZ's goalkeeper Amerigo Muzi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Luiz Gustavo do Valle tried to sneak it across the goal line. Amerigo Muzi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Primitivo Andino got a free kick in the 28th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Felix Montenegro in the 72nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. Felix Montenegro didn't have the luck on his side when he, from a short distance, got a opportunity for a shot on goal in the 72nd minute. The shot missed the goal on the right side and Felix Montenegro ran dejectedly back to his position. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gilberto Sousa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 79th minute of the match Floripa Lions FSCMZ got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Pedro Luís Alvarenga ran over to the corner to take the kick. After 79 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Cristian Sancho. Pedro Luís Alvarenga, 80 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. 83 minutes into the match, Floripa Lions FSCMZ's José Carlos Alagoano sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, José Carlos Alagoano managed to get in a good position for a shot. Floripa Lions FSCMZ's supporters rose to their feet, but José Carlos Alagoano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gilberto Sousa in the 90th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. After 91 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Daniel Zorita. In the 93rd minute, Karl Lammertz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ecuador's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Floripa Lions FSCMZ had won, even though Ecuador had held more of the ball.
